Winter 2011

It has been awhile since my last post.... Well first I would like to mention that we have had aleast a total of 55 inches of snow for this winter.  We are really looking forward to spring.    School has been going great! A couple days ago we had our 100th day of school which means we are getting closer and closer to summer break.

The "girl" is doing great in school.  She had her first book report the other day and really enjoyed it.  She continues to do well in all her subjects.  The "boy" is also doing great in school.  He is reading well and continues to do well in math.  He is counting by 1's, 5's and 10's, and is currently working on his six addition family table.

Old Sturbridge Village

Today we had a fantastic "Home school day" field trip at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, MA.  The children enjoyed learning about early New England life from 1790-1840.  The museum site displayed towns throughout New England on over 200 acres of land.  Theses included homes, a district school, meetinghouses, a country store, a bank, law office, printing office, sawmill, pottery shop, blacksmith shop, a shoe shop, and a copper shop.
The children had a great time learning about the different shops and how the people lived in this time period.  The "B" favorite part of the field trip was seeing the blacksmith hard at work.  And the "G' favorite part of the field trip was watching the shoe maker as he was making the shoes.

Enjoying Fall Weather

What amazing Fall weather we are having in Northeast Connecticut!!!  With the past 3 days in the low 70's, the children are enjoying outside time after school.  Taking walks and enjoying God's creation is great!! We have gathered many leaves that we will be using to create leaf colorings!
The "G"  is continuing to work hard on her science project.  I am getting excited to see the finished product.
The "B" continues to do well in school.  He is really grasping the concept of math.

Currently we are on lesson 35 in our ABEKA curriculum.  The "B" is working on counting to 20 and learning his letters.  Not only is he learning to write them but he is also working on phonic skills.
The "G" is learning many interesting things in 3rd grade.  Currently she is enjoying history very much.  She has learned about great people in history such as :  George Washington, Christopher Columbus, Benjamin Franklin, Miles Standish, Pocahontas, Squanto and others like William Penn. She is working on a science project that involves the 5 categories of vertebrates.  The school year is going well.......
